Aman Jabbi / Co-Founder & CEO

Aman Jabbi brings a balance of technology and business, along with leadership and execution capabilities. He has 20 years of experience, spanning multimedia systems, workstations and mobile cameras. Jabbi started his career designing MPEG systems at startup Graphics Communications America. He then spent five years at Sun Microsystems developing imaging & video solutions for Sun workstations, all of which were commercialized. Subsequently, he worked at 3D Graphics startup Rendition, where he managed video architectures and software for Rendition’s Vérité family of processors. After Rendition was acquired by Micron, Jabbi transitioned into a full-time leadership role as the head of Video Technologies at Micron Imaging (Aptina) and led multiple camera-pipeline and HD-video SOC go-to-market initiatives. From 1995-2004, he represented his companies at MPEG International Standards. He holds four US patents and has seven publications. Jabbi co-founded Pelican Imaging in 2008 and has led the company since May 2009, raising over $17 million in venture capital.

Jabbi received his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University and B.E. (Honors) in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani.

 

 
 


Kartik Venkataraman / Co-Founder & CTO

Kartik Venkataraman has over 20 years experience working with technology companies in Silicon Valley. Prior to founding Pelican Imaging, Kartik headed Computational Cameras at Micron Imaging (Aptina). He spearheaded the design of Extended Depth of Field (EDOF) imaging systems for the mobile camera market. As Manager of the Camera & Scene Modeling group, Kartik’s end-to-end simulation environment for camera system architecture and module simulations has been adopted in parts of the mobile imaging ecosystem. Previously at Intel, Kartik was principally associated with investigating medical imaging and visualization between Johns Hopkins Medical School and the Institute of Systems Science in Singapore. His interests include Image Processing, Computer Graphics and Visualization, Computer Architectures, and Medical Imaging. He holds seven US patents and has ten publications. Venkataraman co-founded Pelican Imaging in 2008.

Venkataraman received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of California, Santa Cruz, MS in Computer Engineering from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and B.Tech (Honors) in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.

 

 
 


Tom Rosch / General Partner at InterWest Partners

Tom Rosch joined InterWest's IT team at the end of 1999. He focuses on wireless and mobility, digital media and Internet, datacenter infrastructure and semiconductor opportunities. He is currently a board member of Avaak, OmniPV, Pelican Imaging, and Quantance. He is a board observer of AMEC and Brite Semiconductor. Prior to InterWest, Rosch was a partner at AT&T Ventures, where he focused on networking, software infrastructure and semiconductors. Prior to that, Rosch was senior manager of the Media Convergence Practice at The Boston Consulting Group and an analyst at Morgan Stanley.

Rosch received his M.B.A. and J.D. from Stanford University, and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Harvard University.

 

 
 


Barry Schiffman
/ Executive Managing Director at Globespan Capital Partners

Barry is a Co-Founder and Executive Managing Director of Globespan and is based in the firm’s Palo Alto office. He primarily focuses on investments in the Communications, and Systems and Peripherals sectors. Barry serves on the boards of Amalfi, Analogix, Luidia and Wirefree Partners. He has also led the team to successful investments in AirGate PCS (NASDQ:PCSA), Aptis Communications (acquired by Nortel Networks), Avanex Corporation (NASDAQ:AVNX), Brocade Systems (NASDAQ:BRCD), Clearwire (NASDAQ:CLWR), Digital Island (NASDAQ:ISLD), Glu Mobile (GLUU), Monterey Networks (acquired by Cisco), Net Perceptions (NASDAQ:NETP), Philsar Electronis, Inc. (acquired by Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDQA:CNXT), Silknet (NASDAQ:SILK; acquired by KANA Communications, NASDAQ:KANA), among many others.

Prior to co-founding Globespan, Barry was the Senior Executive Managing Director of JAFCO Ventures, where he opened the Palo Alto office in 1996. Joining JAFCO from Weiss, Peck & Greer Venture Partners, Barry has extensive industry experience investing in high-growth IT companies.

Prior to Weiss, Peck & Greer, Barry spent 7 years at Apple Computer, Inc. where he held several senior-level positions, and architected deals with key partners such as IBM. He was a founding partner in Apple’s corporate venture capital fund. There he led successful investments in companies such as Sybase (NASDAQ:SYBS), ON Technology (NASDAQ:ONTC), NetFrame (acquired by Micron), and Forethought (acquired by Microsoft).

Barry received a B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

 

 
 


Eric Zimits / Managing Director at Granite Ventures

After spending a long career in finance and investments with a focus on the communications sector, Eric Zimits joined Granite Ventures in 2000 to focus on investing in early-stage communications and components companies.

Prior to Granite, Eric was Managing Director and head of the Communications Research Group at Hambrecht & Quist (later Chase H&Q), where he sponsored several venture capital investments, including: Amber Networks, acquired by Nokia; InterNAP (NASDAQ: INAP); Paragon Software, acquired by Openwave; WavTrace, acquired by Harris Corporation; and VocalData, acquired by Tekelec.

Prior to H&Q, Eric launched a research effort in the telecommunications and wireless industries as a General Partner at Volpe, Welty & Company. He also held analyst positions at Rauscher Pierce Refsnes and Morgan Keegan & Company. Eric's years of experience tracking the communications industry teamed with his financial savvy enables him to guide portfolio companies in making sound business decisions based on a deep understanding of the marketplace. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors for AirTight Networks, Pelican Imaging, Percello, Quantance, and RGB Networks.

Eric received a B.S.E. from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from Tulane University's A.B. Freeman School of Business.
